The Vice President, Marketing & Membership Drive of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), Mr. Chidy Martins, FICMC, led a delegation from the Institute on a courtesy visit to the Chief of Navy Staff on the 26th of March, 2019
He was accompanied by Mr. Lloyd Duru, FICMC; Vice President, Exams & Records and Ms. Chisom Udennaka; Marketing Officer.
Mr. Chidy Martins gave an excellent presentation detailing the effectiveness of Mediation as a dispute resolution mechanism and how Mediation will be of great benefit to the staff of the Nigerian Navy in terms of preserving workplace relationships, as well as relationships with the populace.
The Vice President, Marketing & Membership Drive expressed the willingness of ICMC to conduct Mediation Skills Accreditation and Certification Trainings for staff of the Navy, subsequently induct successful participants into the Institute as Associate Members, Members and Fellows, and conduct a thorough needs analysis with a view to setting up a Dispute Resolution Centre within the Nigerian Navy.

The delegation was well received by the Deputy Director, Standards, who thanked the Institute for the visit and enlightening presentation on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). He agreed that Mediation skills will indeed improve interpersonal communication among staff of the Navy as well as communication between the Nigerian Navy and civilians.
Both parties agreed to engage in further discussions and look forward to a long-lasting relationship in peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
