The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) have agreed to collaborate on a project to train stakeholders across the country on Terrorism awareness, analysis and response strategies.ย This was the high point of the working visit paid by the Institute to the Director-General and Management of NOA.ย
The President of ICMC, Chief Emeka J. P. Obegolu, led a delegation of Council members on Thursday, the 12th of September, 2019 on a working visit to the DG of National Orientation Agency, Dr. Garba Abari. In attendance were the Director of Public Enlightenment and Mass Mobilization; Mrs. Ruth Ogun and the Director, Orientation and Behavioural Modification; Mr. Musa Chantu.

The President led past President of ICMC, Chief (Dr.) Paddy Njoku, the Registrar of the Institute, Engr. Segun Ogunyannwo, Aisha Ado Abdullahi (Deputy Registrar), Mrs. Irene Corson (Admin. Manager) and Mercy O. Akpor (Assistant Training Officer).ย
The President in his opening address introduced the Institute as a body that regulates the practice of Mediation in Nigeria, and also congratulated the DG on his appointment to head the Agency.
The President commended the efforts of the Agency in supporting the growth and development of the Nation and reorientation of Nigerians.
He went further to propose that the Agency collaborates with the Institute on organizing a training workshop on Terrorism Awareness and response, which has now become a global problem affecting the growth and development of Nigeria.
ICMC Special Mediation Skills Training for SON
Dr. Garba Abari, in response, commended the efforts of the Institute in training mediators and contributing to national development. He mentioned further that the Agency has an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR ) Unit for resolution of disputes and is making efforts to replicate the same in all the states.
Finally, he stated that the Agency is willing to collaborate with the Institute, not just to conduct trainings, but also to tap the resources of the Institute in effective dispute resolution.

In conclusion, he thanked the President and his team for the courtesy visit and stated that he is looking forward to working with the Institute. He also formally accepted the invitation to attend the Institute’s 20th Anniversary Celebration which will hold in December 2019.
The President, on a final note, offered to provide a complimentary training workshop on ADR for the Agency’s ADR
