Prof. Offornze D. Amucheazi, Ph.D, SAN to serve as a Panelist during the ICMC 2019 ADR Conference

The 2019 ADR Conference, Induction & 20th Anniversary Dinner of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) themed “ICMC at 20: A trajectory of Mediation Practice and Grassroots Conflict Transformation in Nigeria”, is scheduled to hold on the 3rd of December, 2019 in Abuja.

Professor Offornze D. Amucheazi, Ph.D, SAN, a member of the Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, will be speaking in the panel session on the Singapore Mediation Convention.

Offornze D. Amucheazi, a Professor and Senior Advocate of Nigeria has twenty-eight years of experience in law practice and law teaching.  He has taught at both the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. He served as the Head, Department of Commercial and Property Law as well as Public and Private Law. He has supervised numerous post-graduate works and serves as external examiner to several Universities within and outside Nigeria.

Professor Amucheazi is a versatile legal practitioner, arbitrator and ADR practitioner. He is a Senior Partner in the law firm of Amucheazi, Ozioko and Company with offices in Abuja and Enugu. Professor Amucheazi has been active in the affairs of the Nigerian Bar Association, holding several positions amongst which are: Member of the Council of Legal Education, Member National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, Assistant Secretary and Secretary of the Enugu Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association amongst others. He has also served in several committees of the Nigerian Bar Association at branch and National levels. He is a member of the Panel of Neutrals of the Edo State and Enugu State Multi-Door Court Houses as well as a Neutral Facilitator (Arbitrator) with the Federal High Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre (FHCADRC).

He served as a Consultant/Special Assistant to a Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria on the Establishment of the Africa Finance Corporation. Professor  Amucheazi   served as the Legal Expert (Constitution and Legislative Procedure) at the Policy Analysis and Research Project (PARP) of the National Assembly and subsequently as the pioneer Legal Adviser, National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS) now National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies. (NILDS) At NILS, he also pioneered the post-graduate programme of the Institute and was the Post-Graduate Coordinator.

In 2012 he was appointed Lead Consultant to the Senate Committee of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic Nigeria to coordinate the Review of the 1999 Constitution, a position he held until 31st January, 2019.  Prof. Amucheazi is a Fellow of the Nigerian Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Nigeria (FCArb), Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, (FICMC), Member Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators and Member, Society of Construction Industry Arbitrators. He holds certificates in Strategic Leadership Management from Oxford University, United Kingdom and Constitution Building in Africa from the Central European University Budapest, Hungary. He is a recipient of the Anambra State Government Award for Excellence.  

He has published several scholarly  articles on industrial/ labour law, arbitration and constitutional law and authored and co-authored several books including; The Judiciary, Politics and Constitutional Democracy in Nigeria (1999-2007), The Concept of True Federalism in Nigeria, Thematic Issues in Nigerian Arbitration Law and Practice, The National Industrial Court of Nigeria: Law, Practice and Procedure, Constitutional Review in an Emerging Democracy: The Nigerian Experience and Employment and Labour Law in Nigeria.      

Professor Amucheazi is an expert in the field of Labour Law, Arbitration, Constitution Making and Constitutionalism and has made several presentations in this respect.
